The question sheet stated "need both [i.e. 'oak' and 'leaves'] for a correct answer".
One is bound to wonder what would have happened if someone had answered, for example, "a sprig of oak". (According to dictionary.com, a sprig includes leaves.)
Come to think of it ... if I remember correctly, our answer didn't actually include the word "leaves" – and we were given the points. Well done question master!
